Consultations
|
Autism Matters consultations offer a chance to discuss autism as it affects you, a family member, friend, employee or client. They provide a positive perspective on autism and the space to explore your situation with an informed insider. Simply understanding autism better can be helpful and sometimes specific techniques are suggested to address individual challenges.
Consultations are suitable for anyone who wants to discuss autism with an empathic and knowledgeable autistic educator. Autism can confer considerable strengths and also impose challenges and during consultations we can explore ways of utilising the strengths and mitigating the challenges. Consultations do not provide medical input.

Feedback
"I found Caroline's straightforward, honest and informative approach to be invaluable. I wanted to explore whether I had ASC and by presenting my struggles to Caroline, she was able to explore with me how some of them were likely to be related to ASC. I found the sessions illuminating and reassuring.
Caroline gave me the information and courage to seek a formal diagnosis so I could use my diagnosis at work. I was able to also explore the myriad of emotions that were present as a result of the confirmation that I had ASD. Caroline is very personable, has a great sense of humour and her knowledge of the subject is strong. She is genuine and I got the feeling she deeply cares about her clients and their well-being. The subject matter is also something she is passionate about which means you get the knowledge and the enthusiastic delivery with compassion and kindness.
I would highly recommend sessions with Caroline if you want to explore autism - yours or someone else's."

The consultation was very helpful. This was the first time I had spoken to a real person about the AS condition that I suspect I have - and I didn't know what to expect.
Caroline appeared to have a real interest in why I'd made the appointment, the problems I was facing and how I might reduce the effects of them. She was friendly, professional, informed and frank. (I agree that terminology is unnecessarily negative - disorder? pah!) Caroline made suggestions about how I could get more informed (books, web) and how I could feel more connected and supported (look for a local peer group). Caroline listened carefully and made very apt and helpful comments about my situation at work. I would definitely recommend her to someone else.

Caroline was good at understanding what I meant and responding directly and concisely. I appreciated that. She added just the right bits of extra information while validating or suggesting alternates to my own views. Plus she seems to be a lovely person.

"It was the first time I discussed my concerns and I felt that the discussion was helpful, sensitively conducted and informative"

"I learned a lot and your knowledge of the subtleties of Asperger’s is fascinating. They are things I could not bring to full consciousness on my own: that is I live with them everyday but I have never had the confidence to voice them and embrace them. Thank you for enabling me - for a brief moment - to realise that what I am, how I think and respond to the world has some similarity for others - you and other people with Asperger’'s."

"I was initially apprehensive but have found the sessions brilliant, very useful. The sessions are informal, yet organised and business like. Caroline is open and honest. She listens, she takes things on board and challenges me and opens my eyes. She has given me some useful techniques. I can’t say it enough. She is the real thing!"

"I supported David to attend autism awareness /mentoring sessions with Caroline.
Caroline gave a very clear outline of what she is able to cover in the sessions having first listened to the ideas David and I had given her of what he would find useful.
Caroline is brilliant at reinforcing the positives as well as challenging David in other areas. She is realistic and honest. She has helped David look at practical steps he can make to take things forward.
I have seen positive changes in David since he has been having 1-1 sessions with Caroline. I think he is becoming more self-aware and using that to take more responsibility for making changes in his life to help him move forward."
