Peer support and consultation
|
I offer individual peer support or consultation sessions to autistic people and families wanting to better understand how autism affects them or therapists and counsellors wanting to discuss thier practise in relation to autism. These sessions are offered in person in Reading or via phone or Skype and cost £45 for an hour session (if this is unaffordable contact me to ask about a reduced rate space). Together we can examine how autism affects you or your family member, explore strategies to address any challenges, and maybe develop a personal profile to share with others. Fill in the booking form to let me know what you would like to explore and I will get back in touch to book a consultation session.
"I learned a lot and your knowledge of the subtleties of Asperger’s is fascinating. They are things I could not bring to full consciousness on my own: that is I live with them everyday but I have never had the confidence to voice them and embrace them. Thank you for enabling me - for a brief moment - to realise that what I am, how I think and respond to the world has some similarity for others - you and other people with Asperger’'s." Autistic male September 2014.
"I was initially apprehensive but have found the sessions brilliant, very useful. The sessions are informal, yet organised and business like. Caroline is open and honest. She listens, she takes things on board and challenges me and opens my eyes. She has given me some useful techniques. I can’t say it enough. She is the real thing!"
David Sentowski. Autistic Adult March 2014
I supported David to attend autism awareness /mentoring sessions with Caroline.
Caroline gave a very clear outline of what she is able to cover in the sessions having first listened to the ideas David and I had given her of what he would find useful.
Caroline is brilliant at reinforcing the positives as well as challenging David in other areas. She is realistic and honest. She has helped David look at practical steps he can make to take things forward.
I have seen positive changes in David since he has been having 1-1 sessions with Caroline. I think he is becoming more self-aware and using that to take more responsibility for making changes in his life to help him move forward.

AutAngel
I am a founder and director of AutAngel (www.autangel.org.uk) which is a new venture based in Reading, Berkshire whose mission is to empower autistic people and increase the opportunities for them to thrive and fulfil their potential. We are a CIC (Community Interest Company) and intend to act as an umbrella group enabling our directors and other autistic people to offer peer services to autistic adults. We run ongoing autsim friendly Shintiado class in Reading. We are hoping to secure funding for a post-diagnostic programme (a series of 10 sessions where autistics meet in a group of peers and learn more about autism) and peer support. Contact me to find out more.
